Maurizio Galimberti's portraits, mosaics and ready-made. An anthological exhibition in Senigallia

The Rocca Roveresca in Senigallia hosts from August 2 to 31, 2019 the anthological exhibition dedicated to Maurizio Galimberti: on display his mosaics, portraits and ready-made.

Theanthological exhibition of Maurizio Galimberti, curated by Denis Curti, will be on view in the Rocca Roveresca in Senigallia from August 2 to 31, 2019.

Maurizio Galimberti (Como, 1965) is considered the leading Italian exponent of instant photography, and on the occasion of the exhibition he has personally chosen to exhibit a collection of original photographs, among the most representative of his production, from his archives and private collections.

Characteristic of his style are the so-called mosaics, which, as the curator states, “have the peculiarity of proposing the subject photographed in compositions made up of many tiles or dowels, all of the same size, but of varying number between one work and another. In each of the tesserae a fragment of the whole is reproduced, and in the specific case of the portrait, using an accessory that allows close-up shots, each of the tesserae accommodates a detail of the subject. Galimberti’s skill lies in choosing the sequence of shots and juxtaposing the various parts: in this way, the most significant features and personality of the character being photographed are highlighted, breaking the visual continuity of volumes and proportions.”

Present in the exhibition is one of the series of portraits of leading figures in Italian culture and music, including Umberto Eco, Lalla Romano, Lucio Dalla, Loredana Bertè, and foreign stars such as Robert Altman.

Another theme developed by the artist is the Duchamp-inspired ready-made: taking everyday objects out of their context and proposing them as works of art. Mosaic shots where the detail is captured by polaroid and manipulated with various techniques and then superimposed on the original.

Also on display is the series of travel photographs taken in recent months: on one side New York, on the other side Emilia Romagna. The latter work, still largely unpublished, is entitled Progetto Emilia. First Snapshots and recalls the previous Viaggio in Italia made in 2003. In the project the artist shows for the first time not only the final mosaic, but also its matrix.

The anthological exhibition intends to tell the story of the artist in its different facets, through the projects of the last years and those of continuous technical and stylistic research.
