A disoriented humanity, trapped in an uncertain present that is difficult to decipher, takes shape in the works of Matteo Pannocchia. The artist, winner of the Under 35 Prize of the third edition of Montmartre-Garibaldi Solo Andata and the Popular Jury Prize, opened his new exhibition on Saturday, March 1, at 5:30 p.m. at Studio Mochi, in Livorno. The exhibition will remain open until March 8, viewable daily from 6 p.m. or by appointment. The exhibition, titled Faccio una mostra! and curated by Jacopo Suggi, brings together a selection of Pannocchia’s most recent production, marked by a multimedia and eclectic approach.
Through a language that ranges from oil and acrylic painting to digital graphics, from illustration to animation and installation, the artist builds an expressive universe in which different techniques and media are integrated into a coherent poetics. During the opening, in addition to the artist’s presence, the curator will give a talk to explore Pannocchia’s path and research.
Pannocchia’s works are distinguished by a marked use of color, with saturated and artificial chromatics that amplify the expressive dimension of the images. The compositions are essential, freed of all superfluous detail, almost as if they were fragments of an inner narrative. The artist draws on multiple visual and cultural sources, interweaving scenes of everyday life with references to underground and musical culture, dreamlike suggestions and reflections on contemporaneity. His works return a critical yet intimate look at today’s society, in which themes such as alienation, the difficulty of communication and existential uncertainty emerge. The resulting portrait is that of a fragile humanity, suspended between the desire for connection and the sense of bewilderment that characterizes our time.
