Marcello Dudovich's photographs are on display at the Miramare Castle in Trieste

The great Marcello Dudovich (Trieste, 1878 - Milan, 1962) is best known for being one of the most important Italian publicists of the twentieth century and an excellent painter, but he was also a good photographer: the “photographic” part of his art is now going on display in his Trieste, at the Miramare Castle, from March 12 to May 24, 2020. Marcello Dudovich (1878-1962). Photography Between Art and Passion is the title of the exhibition that explores his photographic production.

A Triestine by birth and international by vocation, Marcello Dudovich was an exceptional innovator and is considered one of the fathers of poster art. The exhibition, curated by Roberto Curci, art historian, and Nicoletta Ossanna Cavadini, director of the m.a.x. museum in Chiasso and Spazio Officina in Mendrisio, displays more than two hundred photographs from private and public collections, set against the sketches and watercolor sketches that the artist considered preparatory to his posters, some thirty of which can be seen in the exhibition. The exhibition also inaugurates the 2020 exhibition season at the Miramare Castle Historical Museum and Park.

Recalling the invention of photography in 1839, Focus on also displays, through Sept. 13, 2020, Maximilian of Habsburg’s megaletoscope, a viewer for photographic prints that allows them to be observed with special lighting effects. Focus on, a periodic initiative of the Historical Museum and Miramare Castle Park dedicated to delving into the history of specific objects in the collection, will be housed in the Museum’s Project Room, which has been renovated and refitted to accommodate temporary exhibitions.

The exhibition will open Monday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. It is produced in collaboration with the m.a.x. museum in Chiasso.
