The town museum of Villa Coloredo Mels in Recanati is hosting from July 5 to Sept. 30, 2018, the exhibition"Marc Chagall. Fables and Other Stories" curated by Andrea Pontalti.
A selection of works by the Russian artist will be on display: twenty etchings depicting"The Fables" of La Fontaine. Chagall began illustrating the writer’s fables in 1927 in Paris at the request of the art dealer Voillard. These depict major themes of life, such as love, death and human folly.
Also featured are two rarely exhibited works from an Italian private collection: these are"King David Plays the Zither" and"Musicien et danseuse."
The exhibition is part of the"Recanati verso l’Infinito" program: exhibitions and events that will follow one another to celebrate the two hundredth anniversary of the writing and publication of Leopardi’s The Infinite.
The exhibition is organized by Sistema Museo Company in collaboration with The Art Company and under the patronage of the City of Recanati.
