Marc Chagall and Ottavio Missoni compared in an exhibition in Sicily

A comparison between Marc Chagall and Ottavio Missoni: this is the theme of the exhibition 'Marc Chagall, Ottavio Missoni. Dream and Color'

Opening today in Noto, at theEx Convitto Ragusa, the exhibition Marc Chagall, Ottavio Missoni. Dream and Color, which compares the works of the great 20th-century painter with those of the fashion designer. By Chagall there will be Les amoureux sur fond jaune, a 1960 oil, one hundred etchings from the Bible cycle and several lithographs. As for Missoni, the public will be able to observe textile paintings, patchwork tapestries and color studies.

“Marc Chagall,” explains Luca Missoni, curator of the exhibition, “is one of the great contemporary masters who may have inspired Ottavio Missoni’s artistic work as well as having had a similar experience in their respective cultural roots. There are numerous traits that unite these two figures, starting with their strikingly similar biographies. In their youthful years they are both forced to suffer the discriminatory policies of governments toward the minorities to which they belong, and this exile leaves a deep mark on them that shines through in their artistic production.”

The exhibition will remain open until Oct. 1, 2017. Hours: April, May and September, Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to midnight. June, July and August daily from 10 a.m. to midnight. Ticket cost: full 12 euros, reduced 8 euros, residents and university students 7 euros, schools 4 euros. Audioguide included in the cost.
