From Aug. 3 to 31, the city of Mantua will welcome nine artists and sixteen diffuse works to be discovered by bicycle in a new public art itinerary, on the occasion of the project Guardami. I am Mantua.
The aim is to tell the story, nature, secrets and identity of the Lombard city.
The project will be developed in sixteen poster-art works created by nine contemporary artists that will be scattered in the urban center, for an itinerary between past and contemporary, reality and imaginary, subjective vision and participatory reconstruction of a collective identity.
Look at Me. I am Mantua is an initiative curated by Simona Gavioli, in collaboration with Lavinia Bottini for Caravan SetUp, the association that has been organizing the contemporary art and urban redevelopment festival Without Frontiers - Lunetta a Colori in Mantua for the past five years, scheduled from August 31 to September 6, 2020. A new public and social art project will begin this year, August 26-30, and will lead to the creation of the new Small Ideal Library initiative for the Te Brunetti neighborhood. The initiative is part of the Mantua Plan for Culture promoted by the City of Mantua.
The nine artists involved (Angelo Camillieri, Giuseppe Gradella, l’abx, Marta Lonardi, Margherita Paoletti, Chiara Riberti, Alessandro Sanna, Laura Scala, Zualidro) will reinterpret the Renaissance theme of the city’s enterprise in a contemporary key, emphasizing the characteristics of Mantua’s identity and in particular those that contribute to the cultural, artistic and social renaissance of the place. The artists are different from each other in style and poetics, so as to create a heterogeneous narrative.
Bicycle tours will also be scheduled to give the public a better chance to participate in the widespread exhibition and reach hidden corners. The whole project is then green oriented: the sixteen posters and advertising materials are printed on biodegradable paper and use certified water-based inks.
