The MAN Museo d’Arte Provincia di Nuoro hosts, from Friday, June 21 to Sunday, October 20, 2019, the first major exhibition in an Italian museum dedicated to Guido Guidi(Cesena, 1941), one of the most significant protagonists of Italian photography after World War II. Guido Guidi - IN SARDINIA: 1974, 2011 is an exhibition curated by Irina Zucca Alessandrelli and co-produced by MAN in collaboration with ISRE, Istituto Superiore Regionale Etnografico della Sardegna. The exhibition presents 250 unpublished photographs that bear witness to Guido Guidi’s relationship with the Sardinian territory, first captured in 1974 and later in 2011, the year of a major commission by ISRE.
The exhibition constitutes at once an anthropological and landscape narrative of the changes that occurred on the island over the course of four decades and a path of research on the medium of photography that places in dialogue black-and-white images from the 1970s and color works from the 2000s.
The works on display, reprinted by the artist on the occasion of the exhibition, are documented in a three-volume slipcase catalog published by MACK Books, a London-based publisher of contemporary fine art photography.
