Major monograph on Paris Bordon in Treviso postponed due to health emergency. New dates

Largest ever monographic exhibition on Paris Bordon to be held in Treviso at St. Catherine's Museum postponed due to health emergency. New dates.

Initially scheduled to run from February 25 to June 26, 2022 at the Museo di Santa Caterina in Treviso, the largest monographic exhibition ever held on Paris Bordon(Treviso, 1500 - Venice, 1571), entitled Paris Bordon. Divine Painter, has been postponed in light of the current health situation and the extension of the state of emergency. The museum headquarters announced that the major retrospective curated by Simone Facchinetti and Arturo Galansino will open to the public from September 16, 2022 to January 15, 2023.

It will feature many works that have never been exhibited in Italy and come from the world’s most prestigious museums, including the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, the National Gallery in London, the Louvre in Paris, the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, the Uffizi Galleries in Florence, and the Vatican Museums.

It intends to recount the variety and richness of the Treviso artist’s production through his sensual female portraits, from the earliest, strongly influenced by Palma the Elder and Titian (the oldest portrait from 1523, from theAlte Pinakothek in Munich) to later ones characterized by a sophisticated mannerism, and through the mythological representations, allegories, sacred scenes of the great altarpieces and small works intended for private devotion. On the occasion of the exhibition, the monumental altarpiece Saint George and the Dragon, from the Vatican Museums, will be specially restored.

In addition, an itinerary of comparisons and cross-references curated by Fabrizio Malachin, Director of Culture, Museums, Libraries and Tourism of the Municipality of Treviso, will allow the public to rediscover masterpieces scattered within the Treviso and Veneto area, such as Paris Bordon’s Consegna dell’anello al doge (Delivery of the Ring to the Doge ) preserved at the Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice.
