Major exhibition dedicated to Jan van Eyck in Flanders goes virtual. The Stay at Home Museum project kicks off.

Due to the health emergency, the exhibition Van Eyck. An Optical Revolution has closed to the public, but Flanders is launching the Stay at Home Museum project, a virtual platform that aims to offer art lovers around the world the chance to view the works of Van Eyck and the Flemish masters from home.

It kicks off on Wednesday, April 8, at 7 p.m. with the co-curator of the Gent exhibition, Till-Holger Borchert, who will lead the public through the major exhibition dedicated to Jan van Eyck via a first-look video on the social Facebook channel. Below, art expert Frederica Van Dam will personally answer questions live from connected users.



With the virtual tour at the Museum voor Schone Kunsten in Ghent, the Stay at Home Museum project will kick off. Visits to other major museums in the footsteps of Bruegel, Rubens and Ensor are planned for the coming weeks.

“In light of the current situation,” explains VisitFlanders CEO Peter De Wilde, "we cannot give the public physical access to our Flemish cultural heritage, but that does not mean we can no longer share our passion for that heritage with the rest of the world. On the contrary, the Stay at Home Museum concept will continue to unite the international community around a common passion for our Flemish Masters. Art lovers from around the world will begin a virtual tour of our best museums simultaneously. A welcome from the curator or museum director guarantees an authentic VIP experience."
