"Madonna and Child in a Garland of Flowers," a splendid work by Pieter Paul Rubens and Jan Brueghel the Elder will be on display from today until April 30, 2018 at the Donnaregina Monumental Complex in Naples.
The canvas made between 1616 and 1618 depicts in the center the Madonna supporting the Child standing on a balustrade; all around is a lush garland of flowers with roses, tulips, orchids and many small flowers in shades of white and pink.
Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, archbishop of Naples, said, "We had Michelangelo’s Crucifix, Leonardo da Vinci ’s Salvator Mundi, and now we continue our museum’s tradition of making great masterpieces available to the public."
Satisfied Vincenzo de Luca: “I think we have to aim for events of excellence. The Rubens or Leonardo exhibition is worth a hundred festivals that we could support.”
