Madonna and Child attributed to Pinturicchio stolen in 1990 returns to Perugia after 30 years

The Madonna and Child attributed to Pinturicchio returns to Perugia after 30 years and will be on display until January 26, 2020 at the National Gallery of Umbria.

From August 10, 2019 to January 26, 2020, the Madonna and Child attributed to Pinturicchio, a work on panel that was stolen in the 1990s and has now returned to Perugia, will be on display at the National Gallery of Umbria.

The painting was stolen from a Perugian collector in 1990 and after 30 years was recovered by the Nucleo Tutela Patrimonio Culturale: following a fruitful investigation with international implications, coordinated by the Carabinieri department that has been working with the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities for 50 years, the precious work of art will be displayed to the public in Room 24 of the Perugia museum.

Satisfied is the director of the National Gallery of Umbria, Marco Pierini: "It is nice that even works that have always been accustomed to showing themselves in the intimacy of private collections can enjoy a wider audience, as will happen for a few months to the splendid Madonna and Child whose relevance to the collection of the National Gallery of Umbria is clearly testified by the many sisters that welcome it from the walls of the museum."
