Luca Pignatelli's Muse on display in Pietrasanta

The Poggiali Gallery in Pietrasanta is hosting the exhibition 'Musa,' a solo show by Luca Pignatelli, from August 18 to September 7, 2018.

Scheduled from Aug. 18 to Sept. 7, 2018, at the Pietrasanta branch of Galleria Poggiali is the exhibition Musa, a solo show by Luca Pignatelli (Milan, 1962), which comes after the large solo show set up at the Piano Nobile of the Uffizi on the occasion of the donation of his Self-Portrait to the Gallery, target=’_blank’>PalazzoCucchiari in 2017 and the experience at the Venice Biennale in 2017, as part of which he exhibited his works on Persian carpets at Teatro La Fenice. In the new exhibition, Pignatelli returns to present a series of new works on railway tarpaulin, the medium that has distinguished him since his early days, in the project room of the Poggiali Gallery in Pietrasanta, Via Garibaldi 8.

Musa intends to make a synthesis between reference to classical mythology and a literary allusion to the inspiration of not only poetic production. Extracted from famous sculptures, four large-scale faces of Greek and Roman heroes will find a place in Pietrasanta, one of which will be exhibited in the project room in Via Garibaldi 8 (as a solitary progenitor, one will be able to admire the Testa Femminile (Female Head), a large canvas of more than two and a half meters, with an iconic Greek goddess face painted on it) and the others in the Poggiali Gallery’s second location in the Ex Fonderia d’Arte Luigi Tommasi on Via Marconi 48, painted with the classic technique of bitumen and acrylic on railroad tarpaulin, on which the original numbers with which the merchant canvases themselves were marked reappear, as they have since the late 1990s: here other muses will connect the iconography with which Luca Pignatelli made his name: heroes, condottieri, philosophers and gods: in fact, there will be no shortage of Aphrodite.

Muse can be visited Monday through Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. to midnight. Free admission. For info see the Poggiali Gallery website or email info@galleriapoggiali.com.
