Louvre Couture, the Paris museum's first exhibition dedicated to fashion

Through July 21, 2025, the Decorative Arts Department of the Louvre Museum is hosting "Louvre Couture. Art and fashion," the Paris museum's first exhibition dedicated to fashion.

Through July 21, 2025, the Louvre is hosting Louvre Couture. Art and fashion: statement pieces, the museum’s first exhibition dedicated to fashion, curated by Olivier Gabet. The exhibition brings together 100 fashion masterpieces from 1949 to the present day by 45 fashion houses and designers, and is spread over an area of nearly 9,000 square meters within the Department of Decorative Arts, where textiles are found in tapestries and other decorative objects.

The exhibition’s approach is methodological and historical: placing fashion in dialogue with the decorative arts, it explores the evolution of styles, ornamentation and artistic crafts. Among the 65 models on display, accompanied by numerous accessories, deep connections emerge between the department’s great masterpieces and the world of fashion, with references ranging from Byzantium to the Second Empire.

The garments are not presented as isolated elements, but as keys to understanding the link between high fashion and the museum’s artistic heritage. The exhibition also highlights the contribution that big names in fashion, such as Jacques Doucet and Madame Carven, have made to the Louvre’s collection, creating common ground between art history and fashion design. Louvre Couture thus aims to offer a new perspective on the decorative arts through contemporary fashion.

The exhibition is produced with the support of Kinoshita Group and Visa Infinite.
