Loredana Longo's violent works come to Albissola Marina exhibition

Loredana Longo's violent works arrive in Albissola Marina for the exhibition 'Another break in the wall' that will feature three new works by the Sicilian artist.

Opening on July 12 (with inauguration at 8 p.m.) is the new solo exhibition of Loredana Longo (Catania, 1967), an out-of-the-box Sicilian artist and author of works that are always strong and violent, with a considerable impact on the public (“with my works I destroy and repair,” the artist, strongly influenced by the culture and nature of her land, has had occasion to declare). Explosions, destruction and deterioration, but also reconstructions, are part of her typical language. In Albissola Marina, at the Asger Jorn House Museum (which was once home to the great Danish artist), Loredana Longo arrives with the exhibition Another break in the wall, curated by Irene Biolchini and Luca Bochicchio: three installations that the public will be able to admire in what was once Asger Jorn’s studio and is now one of the House Museum’s spaces, maintained, however, virtually unchanged from when the Danish artist lived and created here.

The three installations all fall under the title of Crowbar: they are previously unpublished works that constitute a further piece in Loredana Longo’s research into destruction and survival, as well as the artist’s violent gesture. "The unpublished works presented in Jorn’s studio for the exhibition Another Break in the Wall (Un’altra crepa nel muro),“ we read in the presentation, ”are also affected by the aesthetics of detritus, of survival, but also by the gesture of violent assertion, as if in the fracture of the bricks resided a form of resistance. The three installations, titled Crowbar, live on the contrasts between the warlike remnants of the split bricks and the shamanic force of the artist’s gesture, symbolically capable of transforming into gold the walls against which he hurls himself wielding a steel crowbar."

The exhibition will run through Oct. 15. Opening hours: Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to noon, Thursdays from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 8 p.m. (in July and August), 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. (in September), 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 5 p.m. (in October). Realization: City of Albissola Marina and Friends of Casa Jorn Association. Exhibition sponsored by Friends of Casa Jorn, Acca Group and Eugenio Casetta Furnace. Media Partner: Espoarte. All info on the Museo Diffuso di Albissola website, the Friends of Casa Jorn website and the artist’s website.
