From May 4 to May 20, Extra Factory gallery in Livorno is hosting Arterie exhibition, a double solo show by young artists Stefano Lenzi and Matteo Pannocchia. Curated by Jacopo Suggi, the exhibition also includes a rich calendar of events, including lectures, artistic performances and musical initiatives. In fact, Arterie does not want to be just an exhibition, but a moment of encounter, reflection and entertainment dedicated in particular to young people.
The exhibition claims this vitalistic will right from the title: it is in fact the arteries, which in the circulatory system, have the task of transporting oxygen in the blood that radiates from the heart to the other organs and tissues. But arteries also recall the major road axes that, as they traverse urban agglomerations, divide and organize our cities, connecting distant areas and allowing for continuous flow and movement. Although Livorno boasts a consummate tradition of painting, today it thrives on a parcelled out and individualistic art scene, where community projects have dwindled to a trickle and so have exhibition initiatives dedicated to beginners: the organizers’ hope is that this initiative may be a stimulus for future experiences.
The two young protagonists of this review, Stefano Lenzi and Matteo Pannocchia, are two very different artists, both in terms of life experiences and pictorial research, but both are distinguished by a marked talent and originality.
With a humanist flair, Pannocchia composes the painting as a perspective box where the measures are built on the human figures and their vicissitudes, while Lenzi’s images look like precious gemstone inlays in which the narrative expands and multiplies. The differences between the two also insist in the creative act itself: that of the former is rapid, instinctive and translated into quick gestures, finds its origins in images inferred from an apparently banal everyday life, charged, however, with emotional values that are sometimes dreamlike; on the contrary, the production of the latter, cerebral and meticulous, the result of a laborious and slow process, drinks in memories of the great history of art, literature and memories.
The initiative thus arises from fresh forces, not only those of the two artists and the curator, but also the activities that will animate the exhibition weekends will feature some young protagonists of the Livorno art scene. The calendar of events is rich and will begin with the opening on May 4 at 6 p.m., with a meeting with curator Jacopo Suggi and the two artists Matteo Pannocchia and Stefano Lenzi; on Friday, May 5, instead, the day will be dedicated to music, with a DJ Set by Prezio Higroove, followed by a live rap by Gavi (Matteo Pannocchia).
On Friday, May 12, Michele Pierleoni, president of the Labronico Group and a well-known gallery owner, will instead give a lecture on the tradition of Leghorn painting from the past to the present, while the next day, Saturday, May 13, the exhibition space will host the Capillary art performance by artist Medy (Sheyla Micheletti). On Friday, 19, instead, a round table will be proposed to reflect on the youth art scene in Livorno today, with the curator, Veronica Carpita director of the Trossi Uberti Foundation, Daniele Salvato head of the Livorno Artistica association and gallery owner Fabrizio Razzauti. Finally, the calendar will end with the finissage of the exhibition embellished, by an acoustic concert by the young but already established singer Eugenio Sournia. The exhibition and events are free admission, as is the freely downloadable catalog.
