Liu Bolin, the invisible man of contemporary art is on display at the Vittoriano

An exhibition of Liu Bolin, the invisible man of contemporary art, opens at the Vittoriano in Rome. March 2 through July 1, 2018.

Rome ’s Vittoriano is the venue for an exhibition, scheduled from March 2 to July 1, 2018 in the Ala Brasini, of Liu Bolin (Shandong, 1973), the “invisible man” ofcontemporary art, the Chinese artist known for his photographs in which he blends in with his surroundings, the author of a series featuring several Italian monuments. The exhibition, which is titled precisely Liu Bolin. The invisible man, will show the public the photographs in which Liu Bolin, through a very accurate body painting that picks up the hues of the surrounding landscape, blends in with the environment.

The idea of pursuing this kind of art was born in 2005, when the Beijing administration decided to tear down a neighborhood where several artists critical of the Chinese government were residing.Liu Bolin first employed this art form to blend in with the rubble of his studio, sparking a silent protest that was a huge success. His art, which blends painting, sculpture and photography, thus continued to conceal strong messages of social criticism, such as when he had himself portrayed in front of mountains of garbage or among groups of immigrants. Rome will see his earliest shots, those taken in Beijing, up to his most recent work in Italy in front of monuments such as the Colosseum or the Reggia di Caserta.
