It is scheduled from November 10, 2018, to June 30, 2019, the exhibition Luce Figura Paesaggio. Masterpieces of the Seventeenth Century in Umbria, curated by Cristina Galassi, set up at the San Pietro Monumental Complex in Perugia. The exhibition aims to investigate the great (and little-known) artistic heritage of the 17th century in Umbria, documenting its richness and variety. “Umbria, its painters and its patrons,” the presentation reads, “show themselves to be participants in a revolutionary century for Italian figurative culture, in search of new expressive potential. The exhibition itinerary curated by Cristina Galassi is articulated through a considerable number of paintings, about sixty, representative of the various currents and trends that emerged during the 17th century: the late Mannerist culture of Federico Barocci and Ventura Salimbeni coexists with the classicist strand of Gian Domenico Cerrini and Sassoferrato, with naturalism of Caravaggio and Guercino matrix (in the paintings of Spadarino, Orazio and Artemisia Gentileschi), with the Baroque expressiveness of Pietro da Cortona, Pietro Montanini and François Perrier. A plurality of accents that will hold surprises in a region famous above all for its archaeological heritage, its medieval monuments and its Renaissance. A unique opportunity, then, to admire works that have never or little been seen, for the first time presented vis-à-vis, gathered for the occasion in the magnificent setting of the ancient Perugian abbey.”
