Rome does not miss the appointment with the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci (Vinci, 1452 - Amboise, 1519) and at the Scuderie del Quirinale, from March 13 to June 30, 2019, it hosts the exhibition Leonardo da Vinci. Science before Science, organized together with the National Museum of Science and Technology and the Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana in Milan: the aim of the exhibition is to investigate the work of the Tuscan genius with reference to the history of engineering and the scientific-technological culture of the period. The exhibition, curated by Claudio Giorgione, thus starts from Leonardo’s training in Tuscany, analyzes his stay in Milan and reaches the period Leonardo spent in Rome, where he stayed between 1514 and 1516: all through drawings, manuscripts and models.
The exhibition is divided into sections that delve into the scientific themes to which Leonardo dedicated himself and that were at the center of the Renaissance debate: space therefore for construction site machines, machines for war, machines for flight, hydraulic systems, reflections on the ideal city, the classical world, and the use of drawing as a tool for knowledge and representation.
“A major exhibition conceived for the Scuderie del Quirinale,” says the curator, “which aims to restore the most recent studies and interpretations of Leonardo’s work as an engineer and humanist, highlighting his relationships with the thought of his contemporaries. This exhibition is made special by the exceptional integration of models from the Museum’s historical collection, the sheets of the Codex Atlanticus from the Biblioteca Ambrosiana, and valuable loans from prestigious Italian and European institutions.”
The exhibition is open daily: Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Last admission one hour before closing.
