Leonardo da Vinci's Scapigliata goes on the road in Naples

Neapolitan transfer for Leonardo da Vinci's Scapigliata, which is at Palazzo Zevallos from July 6 to September 2, 2018, for a dialogue with Caravaggio.

Neapolitan transfer for Leonardo da Vinci’s The Scapigliata (Vinci, 1452 - Amboise, 1519). In fact, Leonardo’s famous masterpiece, preserved at the National Gallery in Parma, leaves its home to go to Palazzo Zevallos, in the Naples branch of the Gallerie d’Italia, for an exhibition running from July 6 to September 2, 2018, organized as an “advance” of the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of the Tuscan genius’ death.

The painting returns to Naples more than 30 years after the exhibition Leonardo and Leonardoism in Naples, which was held at the Museo Nazionale di Capodimonte, curated by Alessandro Vezzosi, in 1984. The work, whose attribution to Leonardo is almost unanimous, is compared at Palazzo Zevallos with Caravaggio ’s Martyrdom of St. Ursula (Milan, 1571 - Porto Ercole, 1610) for an unprecedented comparison of the works of the two great masters. Special guided tours are also planned. Info on the Palazzo Zevallos website.
