Leonardo da Vinci's motions of the soul celebrated with an installation at Turin's Museum of Cinema


The National Cinema Museum is dedicating to Leonardo da Vinci ’s study of the “motions of the soul” a multisensory installation that aims to bring into dialogue the physiognomic portraits made by the artist with his descriptions of “mental accidents,” the architects of facial movements. The installation is the premise of the exhibition dedicated to the relationship between physiognomy and the staging of characters and emotions, from antiquity to the emoji of the web world and new technologies. The installation, which is titled Leonardo da Vinci and the Motions of the Soul, can be seen at the Turin museum from July 17, 2019 to January 6, 2020.

Scheduled for the occasion is the screening-event of the silent film Leonardo Da Vinci re-released 100 years after its release. The film, which reconstructs the artist’s life on screen for the first time, was produced in 1919 by Historica Film and directed by Mario Corsi and Giulia Cassini-Rizzotto, one of the few female directors of silent films. The film was rediscovered in 1996 and restored in 2008 by the Cineteca Nazionale in Rome.



The film will be shown again on the big screens in theTemple Hall of the Mole Antonelliana and soundtracked live by Giorgio Li Calzi.
