Keith Sonnier brings his works to Milan's Fumagalli Gallery

American artist Keith Sonnier (Mamou, Louisiana, 1941) will hold, from September 27 to December 19, 2018,l a solo exhibition in the spaces of Galleria Fumagalli in Milan entitled Keith Sonnier.Light Works, 1968 to 2017.

“Keith Sonnier,” the presentation reads, "is among the earliest and most significant representatives of a generation of artists who initiated a path of radical research in sculpture. Since the late 1960s, he has been experimenting with industrial and ephemeral materials ranging from latex to satin, objets trouvés to transmitters and video.
In 1968, he made his first wall sculptures using incandescent light, neon and transformers, experimenting with neon in geometric and organic configurations with the aim of giving new form to light and new meaning to materials. Keith Sonnier often works in series, some of which he has continued to develop throughout his career. Elements of early experimental sculptural works are often recognizable in later installations, even in architectural interventions on a monumental scale."

The exhibition presents a selection of the artist’s iconic sculptures made during various periods of his career, from early series in the late 1960s such as Lit Circle Series (1968), Neon Wrapping Incandescent Series (1970) and Sel Series (1978-2003), to more recent ones, including Chandelier Series (2006-), Portal Series (2015) and Floating Grid Series (2017). Keith Sonnier uses neon glass tubes to create spatial dimensions by weaving lines, arcs and curves of light and color that interact with the surrounding architecture.
