John Isaacs stars in solo show at Milan's Poggiali Gallery

British artist John Isaacs is featured at Galleria Poggiali in Milan with the solo exhibition Archipelago - from a distance you look smaller but I know that you are there.

From April 10 to June 29, 2018, Galleria Poggiali in Milan is hosting a solo exhibition by John Isaacs (Lancaster, 1968) entitled Archipelago - from a distance you look smaller but I know that you are there.

The solo show curated by Pierre Yves Desaive will present to the public three works created on the occasion of the Milan exhibition: a sculpture made of ceramic, shellac, epoxy resin and 23-karat gold leaf, a neon and a photograph.
The sculpture has the appearance of a life-size bucket of a bulldozer, but it looks like a wreck; it represents a belief system generated by its own image, so the shovel seems to have been an object of worship of a distant culture.
The neon “From a distance you look smaller but I know that you are there” is a kind of graffiti in light that refers to artists such as Merz and Nauman: it represents a contact between the past and the new.
The photograph “A perfect soul” depicts the artist’s wife and daughter and refers to the narrative of family, love, the cycle of generations, motherhood, myth and life cycles.

In his works, the artist transforms past and present into ambiguous categories, and produces altered ways of perceiving history.

The curator highlights how this new exhibition project resolves the seemingly impossible need to reconcile the needs of an individual against the overwhelming burden of humanity and alludes to the historical and precarious interconnections of our lives.
