The photography space le Stanze della Fotografia in Venice has scheduled an exhibition by photographer Julian Lennon, entitled Whispers - A Julian Lennon Retrospective. The exhibition curated by Julian Lennon himself and Sandrina Bonetti Rubelli will be open to the public from Aug. 28 to Nov. 24, 2024, and will feature an exclusive collection of photographs, which constitute a fascinating journey through Lennon’s career. Through the retrospective, visitors will be able to follow Lennon’s artistic evolution, which was characterized by a strong humanitarian bent and inspired by the philanthropic initiatives carried out for his nonprofit foundation, The White Feather Foundation.
“It is inspiring to bring Julian Lennon’s work to Venice with a diverse retrospective,” comments Sandrina Bonetti Rubelli, co-curator of the exhibition. “In a city that is vulnerable and fragile, that has a rich artistic and historical stratification, and that faces constant difficulties and contradictions, the exhibition seems to dialogue with its many facets. From the cultural intensity of the Art Biennale to the Film Festival, from environmental issues to introspective reflection on issues dear to the individual and the collective. This is not simply a collection of photographs, but an insight into the interiority of an artist who cares, in its broadest sense, about life.”
“Venice has always been synonymous with beauty, art and culture,” Lennon comments. “Exhibiting my work within such a prestigious venue as Le Stanze della Fotografia, in conjunction with the Helmut Newton and Homo Faber retrospective featured on the island of San Giorgio, and international events spread throughout the city during Biennale 2024, is a unique experience. This retrospective not only embraces photography, but is an opportunity to bring attention to themes dear to my heart.”
