On view until November 18, 2019 is the exhibition Adrian Ghenie. The Battle between Carnival and Feast at the Palazzo Cini Gallery in Venice, a solo exhibition by Adrian Ghenie (Baia Mare, Romania, 1977), one of the most important artists on the international contemporary scene. Produced in collaboration with Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac in Paris, the exhibition sees on display on the second floor of the house-museum in Campo San Vio about ten canvases conceived and created specifically for this project, whose title, by virtue of its reference to carnival, suggests a link with the city of Venice. The title suggests the attention paid by the artist to tradition, yet without renouncing a look at current events. In his works, characterized by an experimental use of color and a strong material connotation, Adrian Ghenie is in fact used to depict personalities whose actions have influenced and continue to influence the course of the history of the world in which we live.
Born in 1977 in Baia Mare, Romania, the artist currently lives and works in Berlin. His participation in the LVI Venice Biennale representing the Romanian pavilion established him to international fame, and his works are currently on display at prestigious museum institutions such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Tate Modern in London, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The exhibition will be accompanied by a bilingual (Italian-English) catalog introduced by a critical text byIstituto di Storia dell’Arte Director Luca Massimo Barbero.
