Antonio Ligabue and Vincent van Gogh will be the protagonists of the upcoming exhibitions starting in November 2023 to be hosted in the halls of the Revoltella Museum in Trieste: the first dedicated to Ligabue will start on November 8, while the second dedicated to Van Gogh will kick off on February 22, 2024. Two artists different but united by unfortunate lives, souls overwhelmed by pain and madness, desperate loneliness, capable of making their emotions eternal through powerful painting.
With his full-bodied brushstrokes, Ligabue paints the original experience of man; his art carries within it the vision of an inner strength, the dimension of memory. Marked by a tormented life, he experiences an unrelentingrestlessness, a personal maladjustment that he manages to overcome only by painting, an escape from the hell of a reality that has never welcomed him and he himself has never understood, he feels excluded from a society created by men, he experiences a loneliness without footholds that he manages to avert only through painting.
All this is meant to be told through more than sixty works, in a chronological path curated by Francesco Negri and Francesca Villanti, in which the different stages of the artist’s work are narrated. The exhibition, produced by Arthemisia, is promoted and organized by the Municipality of Trieste - Department of Culture and Tourism Policies, with the support of Trieste Convention and Visitors Bureau and PromoTurismo FVG in collaboration with the Municipality of Gualtieri and Fondazione Museo Antonio Ligabue. The exhibition features Ricola as a special partner.
From February 22, 2024, on the other hand, the major exhibition on Vincent Van Gogh will open to the public with a selection of more than fifty works from the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo, which holds one of the largest holdings of the artist’s works. Produced by Arthemisia and promoted by the City of Trieste, the exhibition is curated by Maria Teresa Benedetti and Francesca Villanti.
