Spazio Cappella Marchi in Seravezza is hosting from September 6 to 22, 2024 the exhibition of Camilla Gurgone (Lucca, 1997) In Sala Vetitia curated by Giorgia Munaron. Art direction is by Lorenzo Belli. Cappella Marchi is a space in a former deconsecrated church in the municipality of Seravezza managed by Alkedo aps that this year presents the third exhibition of the 2024 art season.
The installation created by Camilla Gurgone presents a machine that generates the history of Seravezza, a small town in Versilia, by merging documented historical events with elements imagined by the artist. The narrative is imprinted on thermal paper, a fragile material that will cause the text to vanish in about two years, symbolizing the ephemeral nature of memory. Gurgone’s work therefore becomes a metaphor between the preservation of the past and the decay of knowledge over time. The audience in this way is encouraged to reflect on what constitutes the “truth” about the role of art in the preservation of history, while the installation blurs the boundaries between real and artificial.
Camilla Gurgone born in Lucca in 1997, lives and works in Milan. In 2020 she graduated in sculpture at Rufa - Rome University of Fine Arts (Rome), and in 2024 in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies at NABA - Nuova Accademia Di Belle Arti (Milan). Since 2022 she has been on the team for the management of spazioSERRA (Milan) and the project space Omuamua (Milan). Since 2024 she has been represented by Viasaterna gallery (Milan). Investigating the direct relationship between artist, work and viewer, she mainly deals with relational performance/installations, site specific and new technologies for human-machine interaction. Group and solo exhibitions in Italy and abroad include: Viasaterna, Milan (2024); Volvo studio, Milan (2024); Platea, Lodi (2023); Pavillon am Milchhof, Berlin (2023); Triennale di Milano (2023), Galleria Unosunove, Rome (2023); Palazzo Ducale, Genoa (2023); Orto Botanico, Rome (2022); SpazioSERRA, Milan (2022); Kunstschau, Lecce (2022) Monitor Gallery, Rome (2021); Antiguo Matadero, Zaragoza (2020); GAM Gallery of Modern Art, Turin (2020); Spazio KHLAB, Rome (2020); Palazzo Ridola, Matera (2019); Castello di Rivara, Turin (2019); ZAWP, Blibao (2019).
