From September 21, 2023 to February 25, 2024, Madrid ’s CentroCentro will host the first major exhibition dedicated to the father of Impressionism in the Spanish capital. Organized by CentroCentro-part of the Culture, Tourism and Sports Department of the Madrid City Council-and Arthemisia in collaboration with the Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris, the exhibition entitled Monet. Masterpieces from the Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris, is conceived by Sylvie Carlier, general curator and curator of the Musée Marmottan Monet, and co-curators Marianne Mathieu, art historian, and Aurélie Gavoille, assistant curator of the Musée Marmottan Monet.
Indeed, more than fifty masterpieces by the celebrated painter from the Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris will be on display for the occasion, with the aim of recounting the entire artistic parabola of the Impressionist master, read through the works Monet cared most about, those he jealously preserved in his home in Giverny until his death, including the very famous and iconic Water Lilies.
For the Madrid exhibition, the museum will lend Portrait of Michel Monet with Pompom hat (1880), The Train in the Snow. The Locomotive (1875) and London. Parliament. Reflections on the Thames (1905), along with large-scale paintings such as Water Lilies (1917-1920) and Wisteria (1919-1920).
