In September in Milan a major exhibition dedicated to Caravaggio

Palazzo Reale in Milan will host a major retrospective exhibition dedicated to Caravaggio from September 29, 2017 to January 28, 2018.

Coming in September is a major exhibition dedicated to Caravaggio to be held at Milan’s Palazzo Reale.
The exhibition will open on Sept. 29, celebrating the anniversary of the artist’s birth on Sept. 29, 1571, and will be open until Jan. 28, 2018.

"Inside Caravaggio" will show the public eighteen masterpieces by Michelangelo Merisi from Italian and foreign museums; among the works on display are the Flagellation from the Capodimonte Museum, La Buona Ventura from the MUsei Capitolini, San Girolamo penitente from the Museu de Montserrat in Barcelona, and the Fanciullo morso da un ramarro from the Fondazione di Studi di Storia dell’Arte Roberto Longhi in Florence.

The great novelty of this exhibition is the presence of X-ray images of the works on display.

The retrospective “Inside Caravaggio,” curated by Rossella Vodret in collaboration with a prestigious scientific committee chaired by Keith Christiansen, aims to present visitors with the diagnostic investigations and new documentary research that have led to changes in the chronology of the early works.

“Through an innovative use of multimedia apparatus, it will be possible to dynamically realize an interesting comparison between the final drafting of the work and the ”thought“ that followed Caravaggio in creating it,” explains the curator.

The exhibition is sponsored by Comune di Milano-Cultura, Palazzo Reale and MondoMostre Skira.
