In Prato, the first major exhibition in an Italian museum dedicated to Simone Forti

The Pecci Center in Prato is hosting the first major exhibition in an Italian museum dedicated to Simone Forti from June 19 to August 29, 2021.

From Saturday, June 19, the Centro Pecci in Prato welcomes until August 29, 2021, the first major exhibition in an Italian museum venue dedicated to the art of Simone Forti, whose family was originally from Prato. Unhurriedly, this is the title of the exhibition curated by Luca Lo Pinto and Elena Magini, in close collaboration with the artist herself, aims to present a focus on News Animation, a series of works that Forti has made since the mid-1980s. Starting from news stories published in newspapers, the artist analyzes the relationship between language, movement and physicality.

Included in the exhibition are performances, works on paper, video and audio works, and all are accompanied by a special soundtrack in which Forti reads his The Bear in the Mirror, a collection of stories, prose, poems, drawings, photos, letters, notes and memoirs.

A historical performance by the artist will also be presented each week, including Scramble, Sleepwalkers/Zoo Mantras, Song of the Vowels, Cloths and Rollers, the latter a primary movement, part of the artist’s vocabulary, presented at the Luigi Pecci Center for Contemporary Art for the first time as a complete work, and then a version of News Animation, performed by Simone Forti’s historical collaborator Sarah Swenson.

The exhibition concludes with the presentation of a nucleus of unpublished drawings, conceived during the first lockdown, the Bag Drawings: a series in which the artist worked on shopping bags, as a direct expression of an emotionality linked to the everyday and the familiar. Senza Fretta is conceived as a large landscape with a special display designed in collaboration with Forti herself that shows the natural evolution and exchange between dance, film, drawing, sound and writing, through a political yet personal gaze.
