In Parma, the pop works of Ligurian artist Carlo Sciff

From February 26 to March 17, 2022, Chaos Art Gallery in Parma presents the exhibition Excursus by Carlo Sciff (Bonassola, 1946), in which the recent pictorial production of the Ligurian artist will be exhibited. Pop works that invite the public to reflect with positive lightness and great irony on the obsessions, habits and customs that characterize Italy.

Curated by Francesco Mutti, the exhibition displays about twenty new works created in the last two years, along with some earlier works, to allow visitors to see the significant change that has affected his painting, which now moves toward a more introspective dimension.

"Excursus is a kind of legend of Sciff’s work,“ comments the curator. ”And it brings with it some considerations: the first is that, in eleven years of activity, Carlo has certainly changed. It is so in his graphic style, in his mastery of line, in his compositional invention: some of today’s formal solutions still possess that capacity for synthesis with which he has already been appreciated in the past, and yet, now, they also show executive rapidity and sudden intuition, indispensable gifts if one wants to stop the contemporary moment and bring it out into the open. Moreover, change has also taken place on the inside: stimulated by new ideas and new studies, his production is increasingly affected by that introspective analysis that leads, sooner or later all artists, to want to shed light on what they have inside them as much as on the external world they observe day by day."
