As part of the 10th edition of ColornoPhotoLife, scheduled from October 18 to 20 at the Reggia di Colorno, dedicated to the theme The Ephemeral and The Eternal, Spazio BDC28 in Parma will host the exhibition The Bright Side of the Moon - vintage photographs from the Nasa archives from October 18 to November 24, 2019.
Through 170 vintage photographs from the NASA archives, the exhibition aims to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the lunar landing of Neil Armstrong and co. The images depict the very first launches and training (1950 - 1966), the missions of the Mercury (1960 - 1963), Gemini (1964 - 1966) and Apollo (1966 - 1972) programs, as well as 2 roadbooks of Apollo 13 and Apollo 15.
The Bright Side of the Moon will bring to Parma a fragment of the role of photography in the American space program of the 1960s and 1970s. It is not excessive to consider photography as a key element in the media operation that NASA institutes carried out in order to capture the public’s attention and awaken a collective feeling of participation in the space exploration plan. The shots displayed here, which have been presented in the world’s largest museums, are the same ones originally used by NASA both as objects of scientific study and insight and as official documentation to be submitted to investors, as well as for publicity and outreach purposes.
The private collection includes a substantial amount of photographs produced by NASA since the beginning of the Mercury program. In black and white or color, these photographs are true testimonies: the former were normally produced during the training period prior to the space operation, while the color ones taken during the launch and mission phase.
Hours: Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Free admission.
