In Naples exhibition on The Young Pope, the successful series by Paolo Sorrentino

Coming to Naples is an exhibition on The Young Pope, the successful TV series directed by Oscar winner Paolo Sorrentino.

An exhibition on The Young Pope, the successful television series directed by Oscar-winning director Paolo Sorrentino(click here for an in-depth look), is coming to the Royal Palace in Naples. The exhibition will be titled simply The Young Pope / the show and will open its doors to the public on April 11. On display will be thirty-eight photographs taken during the months of filming by set photographer Gianni Fiorito.

Fiorito’s images chronicle the creation of Sorrentino’s young pope and the other characters in the series: there will be scene images but also backstage images that tell the story of the hard work behind the success of The Young Pope. Also on display will be photographs capturing the reconstruction work on environments that cannot be used from life (such as the Sistine Chapel).

“Cinematic and photographic storytelling,” says Gianni Fiorito, “although they start from similar technical tools, they are completely different. A place, a dialogue, the mood of a character can be told in cinematography with a camera movement, a change of focus, a long or short shooting time in each case benefits from the use of words. In photography the same place, the same mood or dialogue must be encapsulated solely in one shot, and without a soundtrack. Hence the need for synthesis.”

The exhibition, curated by Maria Savarese and organized by Scabec - Società Campana Beni Culturali, will remain open until June 18. Opening hours: daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. (last entry 7 p.m.), closing day Wednesday. Entrance fee euro 4. Information: 081-5808255, pm-cam.palazzoreale-na @ beniculturali.it.
