From May 26 to July 16, 2021, the Fondazione Adolfo Pini presents La prima, the first solo exhibition of the very young artist Yara Piras (Turin, Italy, 1995) winner of the 2021 edition of the Premio Fondazione Adolfo Pini - ReA! Fair, curated by Adrian Paci.
The exhibition, whose title refers not only to the way the preview of an event is defined in the cultural context, but also to the artist’s celebration of this first experience, brings together a series of works that are the expression of a research on the concept of image, linked to film/photographic material and the possibilities of film projection.
“Sometimes it seems that the throbbing magic of illusion returns to anchor itself in the solidity of the real precisely through the physical presence of the mechanism that produces it,” says Adrian Paci, artist and curator of the exhibition. “At the same time, the bodies of the film, screen and projector emanate their own sensuality, different from that of the illusion of the image but no less evocative. The relationship between the image and the mechanisms that generate it is a necessary, functional and non-arbitrary one, and in this organic necessity lies the conceptual rigor of Piras’ work.”
Yara Piras works with films from her personal archive and with newly produced footage dedicated to gesture and performative action, a transparent, solid and moving material with which she creates sculptural/installative works that dialogue with space and time, inviting the viewer to an intimate cinematic experience that interacts with the narrative.
Yara Piras was born and raised with a focus on photography understood as a contemporary art form. With time, maturing thoughts and personal taste she shifted her attention specifically to installation art. Humanistic studies made in her early formative years allowed her to learn about the importance of analytical thinking and later disavow it. Later consciously he chose an educational path related to the most heartfelt interests that led to the analysis of themes akin to his thinking; such as, visual arts, which allowed the personal deepening of his path.
