In Genoa, an exhibition-tribute to Aurelio Caminati at the Museoteatro della Commenda

From Sept. 12 to Oct. 12, the Museoteatro della Commenda, Genoa, is holding an exhibition honoring Aurelio Caminati (Genoa, 1924 - 2012), one of the leading Genoese artists of the 20th century, best known for the cycle of frescoes that decorate the Carlo Felice Theater in the Ligurian capital.

The exhibition displays eighteen works, some of them previously unpublished, that the Genoese master created on canvas, panel, paper and sheet metal. Among the works on display are a series of works from the very early 1970s on the theme of ideological forgery, on the recovery and reworking of some famous themes or paintings even from past centuries, “polluting” and revitalizing them with personal quotations.

The exhibition is accompanied by a catalog published by De Ferrari Editore.

Aurelio Caminati began his career early and has exhibited in prestigious contexts: present at the Rome Quadrennial in 1955 and at the Venice Biennale in 1956, he also exhibited at the Milan Triennial (1964) and his solo shows have been held in several important contexts: the main one is the one held at Palazzo Ducale (Genoa), in 1997. An important nucleus of Caminati’s works is preserved at the Villa Croce Museum of Contemporary Art in Genoa.
