An exhibition dedicated to Caravaggio and in particular to one of his most famous works, the Basket of Fruit. It will be held in Asti, at Palazzo Mazzetti, from November 25, 2023 to April 7, 2024. The Basket of Fruit, painted by Caravaggio between 1597 and 1600, represents the first still life in the history of art, and the exhibition that welcomes it is entitled Caravaggio’s Basket. Secrets and Enigmas of Still Life. The exhibition will be organized by the Museums of Asti, Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Asti, the Piedmont Region and the City of Asti with the contribution of Fondazione CRT, in collaboration with Arthemisia, under the patronage of the Province of Asti, and with Banca di Asti as sponsor.
Visitors to the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, the museum that preserves Caravaggio’s masterpiece, meanwhile will be able to admire a reproduction through Digital Artwork (DAW), a digital silkscreen print certified and authorized by the museum, in every way faithful to the original, executed with internationally patented technology by the Cinello company, which registered the DAW trademark. “The most important and valuable works in Italian and international museum collections are now available for display in any context,” comments John Blem, founder and president of Cinello. “Masterpieces such as Caravaggio’s Canestra, which are not traditionally moved because of their immense value, can be appreciated in their digital version thanks to DAW technology. Cinello allows institutions and individuals to request the loan of one or more DAWs, promoting, with philanthropic intent, Italian culture abroad, or supporting the museum that has to deprive itself of one for a loan.”
The DAW of Caravaggio’s Basket of Fruit will be loaned to the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana in Milan by Cinello, which is bearing the entire cost of making the work. The company has always flanked museums and foundations through a particular form of support: during the purchase and sale between private individuals, usually collectors interested in buying phygital works of modern or contemporary art, 50 percent of the proceeds from the sale of a DAW, net of the operating costs incurred by Cinello, is paid to the institution holding the rights to reproduce the digital work, which then obtains new resources without any investment or cost.
