The Ferrero Foundation in Alba will host from October 27, 2018 to February 25, 2019 the exhibition"From Nothing to Dream. Dada and Surrealism from the Collection of the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum."
Ten sections, for which engaging titles have been designed for the public, will follow one another in a kind of exhibition itinerary reflecting surrealist suggestions.
The themes that distinguish Dadaism and Surrealism, such as chance, dreams, and the unconscious, will be highlighted.
The Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum boasts a fine collection of works by Dadaists and Surrealists, many from the collection of Edward James. One example is René Magritte’s La reproduction interdite, which will be featured in the exhibition.
Other works on display include Salvador Dalí’s Landscape with a Maiden Jumping Rope, Salvador Dalí’s Mae West Mouth-Couch, canvases by Magritte, Dadaist works by Man Ray, such asLautréamont’s Imaginary Portrait, collages by Scwitters and sculptures by Arp.
Plus Marcel Duchamp’s Boîtes, Tanguy’s underwater paintings, Brauner’s visionary inventions, Bellmer’s dolls, and Claude Cahun’s photographs.
Curator Marco Vallora says: “In a thoughtful and articulated path, the Foundation proposes, for its biennial appointment with great art, in October, a new exhibition of international scope, original and different from the previous ones. For it will involve books, poems, journals, pamphlets of furious mutual polemic, film clips, fragments of music, all related to the two movements, letters and manifestos, side by side with innovative and often rupturing canvases and sculptures of great suggestion and historical relevance.”
