The great masterpieces of the Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris will soon arrive in Bologna: from August 29, 2020 to February 14, 2021, Palazzo Albergati will in fact host the exhibition Monet and the Impressionists. This is an absolute premiere since for the first time since its founding in 1934 the Parisian museum is lending a unique body of works, many of them previously unseen. Fifty-seven masterpieces created by Monet and the major exponents ofFrenchImpressionism, such as Manet, Renoir, Degas and many others.
An exhibition itinerary that will feature, alongside masterpieces such as Degas’s Portrait of Madame Ducros (1858), Renoir’s Portrait of Julie Manet (1894) and Monet’s Water Lilies (circa 1916-1919), previously unpublished works that have never left the Musée Marmottan Monet. These include Édouard Manet’s Portrait of Berthe Morisot Lying Down (1873), Claude Monet ’s The Bridge of Europe, Station Saint-Lazare (1877), and Pierre Auguste Renoir’s Seated Maiden with White Hat (1884).
The exhibition also intends to pay tribute to all the collectors, including many descendants and friends of the artists in the exhibition themselves, who since 1932 have contributed to enriching the valuable collection of the Musée Marmottan Monet.
The exhibition has the patronage of the Emilia Romagna Region and the Municipality of Bologna, is produced and organized by the Arthemisia Group in collaboration with the Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris, and is curated by Marianne Mathieu, the museum’s scientific director.
