How the Alps are transformed: a photographic tale on display at the Fortress of Bard

From Sept. 19 to Nov. 1, the Fortress of Bard is hosting the exhibition 'Across the Alps: a photographic account of the transformations of the Alpine landscape.'

From Sept. 19 to Nov. 1 in the spaces of theOpera Mortai at the Fortress of Bard is the photographic exhibition Attraverso le Alpi: un racconto fotografico delle trasformazioni del paesaggio alpino, an interesting project promoted by Architects Arco Alpino with Urban Reports at the same time in ten Italian locations, including the Fortress of Bard, to tell the story of the transformations of the Alpine landscape.

From the extreme western French border to the eastern Slovenian one, 274 selected shots, 10 provincial territories involved and thoroughly investigated, thousands of kilometers of routes, 12 valleys and a purpose: to trace the signs, traces and characters that serve to tell the story of the vast Alpine cultural landscape made of architectures, languages and uses. And to identify-through the forms of living, resources, productions and mechanisms of yesterday and today-signs and warnings of abandonment and degradation and, at the opposite, examples of contemporary re-appropriation.

This new photographic project of the Alpine Arc Architects Association “promotes a further level of reading and intends to observe the normal ways of using and exploiting territories that testify to the dialectical and evolutionary relationship between man and the environment in which he lives,” points out Alberto Winterle, president of the association.

The AAA Association is composed of the Associations of Architects of Aosta, Belluno, Bolzano, Cuneo, Novara and Verbano Cusio Ossola, Sondrio, Turin, Trento, Udine and Vercelli. The 274 Urban Reports shots come from the roads and trails of Val Tanaro, Val Chisone, Saint-Nicolas basin, Val Sermenza and Val d’Otro, Val Divedro, Valmalenco, Val di Rabbi, Val Martello, and the territories between Cadore and Comelico and Val Canale.
