Ho Kan: Chinese abstraction on display at the Villa Reale in Monza

Villa Reale in Monza is hosting from June 9 to July 9, 2018, the restrospective Beyond Colors and Shapes by artist Ho Kan.

From June 9 to July 9, 2018, a retrospective exhibition dedicated to one of the great pioneers ofChinese abstraction, Ho Kan, will be held at the Villa Reale in Monza.

Sixty works will be on display to allow the public to learn about Kan’s artistic activity from the 1950s to 2010.

The exhibition will begin with calligraphy and carving, through which the artist developed an original abstract oriental painting characterized by a minimalist and poetic style.
The exhibition will feature for the first time some drawings made in Taiwan in the 1950s.

His early works have surrealist influence, while from the 1960s Ho Kan began to explore abstract and geometric forms. Moving to Italy, where he settled for fifty years, he experimented with the basic elements of painting, such as dots, lines, planes and color blocks, which he combined with Eastern philosophy.

The exhibition will end with a selection of recent paintings and some sculptures made in collaboration with sculptor Yang bei-Chen.

The exhibition"Ho Kan. Beyond Colors and Shapes" is curated by Sabine Vazieux and organized by BIG Eyes Vision International of Milan and Chini Gallery of Taiwan under the patronage of the Lombardy Region and the City of Monza.
