"Henri Cartier Bresson Photographer": an exhibition on the French photographer in Palermo.

From Oct. 21, 2017 to Feb. 25, 2018 in Palermo is the exhibition 'Henri Cartier Bresson Photographer,' featuring shots by the famous French photographer.

The exhibition "Henri Cartier Bresson Photographer," which brings together 140 photographs by the French photographer, starts at the Gallery of Modern Art in Palermo on Oct. 21.

Curated by Denis Curti, the exhibition aims to help visitors understand Cartier Bresson’s modus operandi, based on the search for contact with others, in the most diverse places and situations.

The famous photographer wrote: “For me, the camera is like a notepad, a tool to support intuition and spontaneity, the master of the moment who, in visual terms, asks and decides at the same time. To ”make sense“ of the world, one must feel involved in what one frames in the viewfinder. Such an attitude requires concentration, mental discipline, sensitivity and a sense of geometry. Only through a minimal use of means can one arrive at simplicity of expression.”

“To talk about Henri Cartier-Bresson, it is good to keep his biography in view,” says the exhibition’s curator: "his experience in the field of photography totally merges with his private life. Two episodes say a lot about the character: in 1946 he learned that MOMA in New York intended to dedicate a “posthumous” exhibition to him, believing him to have died in the war, and when he got in touch with the curators to clarify the situation, with immense irony he devoted more than a year to preparing the exhibition, which opened in 1947. Also in the same year he founded, together with Robert Capa, George Rodger, David Seymour and William Vandivert, the famous Magnum Photos agency. In short, Cartier - Bresson is a photographer destined to remain immortal, capable of rewriting the vocabulary of modern photography and influencing entire generations of photographers to come."

The Palermo exhibition, organized by Civita and on view until Feb. 25, 2018, is a selection originally curated by his friend and publisher Robert Delpire and realized in collaboration with the Henri Cartier-Bresson Foundation, an institution created in 2003 together with his wife Martine Franck and daughter Mélanie and whose main purpose is to collect his works and create an exhibition space open to other artists. The current installation is curated by Denis Curti and Andrea Holzherr on behalf of Magcnum.
Ticket price: full € 10, reduced € 7.
