Through Jan. 7, 2018, the exhibition"Polyptychs" celebrating Hans Hartung, one of the leading exponents of 20th-century Europeanabstractionism, is on view at the National Gallery of Umbria in Perugia.
The exhibition features 16 large-scale works divided into compartments that the artist himself calls Polyptiques, like the polyptychs in the National Gallery of Umbria, created between 1961 and 1988.
Also on display are 40 works on paper.
The Polyptiques series was born when Hartung began painting directly on canvas, without first making the work on paper, experimenting with new techniques and expanding formats.
The exhibition is curated by Marco Pierini and is organized in collaboration with the Fondation Hartung-Bergman in Antibes.
