Giuseppe Veneziano reinterprets Raphael in San Benedetto del Tronto

Giuseppe Veneziano VS Raffaello Sanzio is Giuseppe Veneziano's new exhibition project in San Benedetto del Tronto. July 24 through August 30, 2020.

Giuseppe Veneziano VS Raffaello Sanzio is the new urban exhibition project that will involve the entire city of San Benedetto del Tronto from July 24 to August 30, 2020. A tribute that the artist intends to make to the great Urbino painter on the occasion of the five hundredth anniversary of his death.

Some of the city’s public billboards will be invaded by Raphaelesque subjects reinterpreted by Veneziano and merged with pop characters from the collective imagination, creating a fun and at times irreverent path with a maxi format.

The aim of the project is to use the tools of mass communication and advertising to popularize art and give life to new urban routes in which the public has the opportunity to approach the languages of the contemporary outside the usual spaces. It will also be an opportunity to rediscover unusual areas of the city, reappropriating urban spaces.

“The idea of such an itinerary,” commented Elisa Mori and Giorgia Berardinelli of theCultural Association Verticale d’Arte, “allows us to be able to enjoy the languages of contemporary art through a mode totally new and in compliance with the provisions of social distancing imposed in this period, also going to intrigue and involve a new audience, both urban and tourist as we hope will happen, in the full spirit of the cultural operations that Verticale D’Arte has been carrying out since its establishment.”

The public is invited to search for works scattered throughout the urban circuit of the municipality, with the use of a brochure and digital and interactive tools.

Also on display at the headquarters of the Municipal Historical Archives in the Bice Piacentini Palace in the Old Incasato of San Benedetto del Trento will be Giuseppe Veneziano’s Our Lady of Sanitation (2020), inspired by Raphael’s Our Lady of the Grand Duke, as well as the current health emergency.

The project is curated by Stefano Papetti, Elisa Mori and Giorgia Berardinelli.
