Gianni Berengo Gardin and Olivetti. An exhibition for the photographer's 90th birthday

CAMERA - Italian Center for Photography in Turin presents until November 15, 2020 the exhibition Gianni Berengo Gardin and the Olivetti.

Until November 15, 2020 CAMERA - Italian Center for Photography in Turin presents the photographic exhibition Gianni Berengo Gardin and Olivetti, curated by Margherita Naim and Giangavino Pazzola.

The exhibition, in collaboration with the Olivetti Historical Archives Association and the “P.A.Garda” Civic Museum of Ivrea, aims to highlight the relationship between Gianni Berengo Gardin (Santa Margherita Ligure, 1930) and the historic Ivrea company through an unpublished selection of more than seventy vintage black and white photographs, publications and archival documents. There are two main nuclei: a formal one that investigates the theme of the value of architectural design, another that translates a social system of relationships inside and outside the factory.

The famous photographer collaborated with Olivetti for a long time and through his services masterfully depicted these two themes.

The review aims to pay tribute to Berengo Gardin himself on the occasion of his 90th birthday. Born from a research and study project promoted by the Olivetti Historical Archives Association in 2018 and carried out by Margherita Naim through the analysis and cataloguing of Gianni Berengo Gardin’s photographic documents in the Olivetti Company’s funds, the exhibition is part of a memorandum of understanding between CAMERA’s Archives Department and the Association, aimed at mapping and enhancing the photographic funds preserved in Ivrea.

“We are particularly pleased to present, in the Project Room,” said CAMERA President Emanuele Chieli, “the exhibition dedicated to the master Gianni Berengo Gardin: not only an important appointment in the calendar of our center’s fifth birthday celebrations, but also yet another testimony to the attention that the Foundation has always dedicated to the great names of Italian and international photography. This exhibition is, moreover, an opportunity to strengthen the valuable collaboration with the Olivetti Historical Archives Association and in this way pay homage together to the 90th birthday of one of the most important Italian photographers of recent decades.”
