Giacometti's graphic production on display in Chiasso: more than 400 sheets on display

The m.a.x. museum in Chiasso is hosting the exhibition Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966), Graphics on the Borderline of Art and Thought, until Jan. 10, 2021.

On view until Jan. 10, 2021 at the m.a.x. museum in Chiasso is the exhibition Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966), Graphics on the Border between Art and Thought, curated by Jean Soldini and Nicoletta Ossanna Cavadini.

The exhibition is part of the Chiasso Cultural Center’s theme for the 2019-2020 season, namely the border, and features important loans from Swiss and international institutions and private collections.

Alberto Giacometti is known as a sculptor and painter, but he drew a lot: through the study of works of art from every era, he sought to learn about reality. In the course of his artistic activity he also produced numerous engravings and lithographs. Giacometti’s graphic production is an expression of profound research that has remained less known until now.

The Swiss museum venue is exhibiting on this occasion for the first time more than four hundred sheets to provide visitors with a comprehensive view of his graphic work: from woodcut to burin engraving, from etching to lithography, and often these sheets are related to book illustrations.

The four hundred sheets are joined by a number of paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs and a selection of plates that belong to the collection Quarantacinque disegni di Alberto Giacometti, published by Einaudi in 1963.
