Palazzo Zabarella in Padua will host from September 29, 2018 to January 27, 2019 the exhibition"Gauguin and the Impressionists. Masterpieces from the Ordrupgaard Collection."

Visitors will be able to admire masterpieces by Cézanne, Degas, Gauguin, Manet, Monet, Renoir, Matisse, and Berthe Morisot from the famous Danish collection, which came into being in the early 20th century thanks to Wilhelm Hansen, a banker, insurer and state councillor, and his wife Henny. A collection considered one of the finest among European collections of Impressionist art.

Hansen’s intent was to create a collection of French art on par with his Danish collection, and he succeeded in just two years, from 1916 to 1918.

Among his 156 works are canvases by David, Delacroix’s Portrait of George Sand, a Marina in Le Havre by Monet, Daumier’s The Wrestler, and dancers by Degas.
