Thanks to the collaboration between Fondazione CRC and Castello di Rivoli, the church of San Giuseppe in Alba will host the exhibition"Emilio Vedova from the Collections of Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea" from October 7 to December 2, 2018.

The protagonist of the exhibition is the work Da dove...(1984-1) created by Emilio Vedova in 1984 and kept in the collections of the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea. Inside the Alba church, the work will be placed in the apse area.

The painting is a significant example of Vedova’s art, an exponent of Informal painting: a painting characterized by expressive gesture and pure color that intends to convey the fundamental themes of human existence, particularly dramatic ones.

Curator Caterina Molteni said, “The title chosen immediately refers to a question about origin, specifically the emergence of form and color. The artist places in the gesture the possibility of injecting a new force on the canvas, treating the pictorial matter as an organic mass. A spontaneous settling of the parts is triggered in the painting, whose movements the artist directs through the converging diagonal lines and through the insertion of an ovoid element at the top. In contrast to a conception that recognizes form and color only because they are associated with pre-existing realities, Emilio Vedova eliminates the need for a figurative correspondence with the external world, bringing painting practice closer to the ultimate and political nature of action: the ability to inject something new into the world in order to reshuffle what appears uniform and defined.”
