Running until February 3, 2019 is the exhibition Ozmo, Every walls in town tells a story at the Fortilizio and Torre Guelfa in Pisa.
Produced by the association Start - Open your eyes, with the contribution of the Municipality of Pisa and the Pisa Foundation and the collaboration of theUniversity of Pisa, the Palazzo Blu Foundation and the Regional Council of Tuscany, the exhibition is all dedicated to Ozmo, pseudonym of Gionata Gesi (Pontedera, 1975), one ofItaly’s best-known street artists.
Starting on the ground floor, where the work dedicated to “Justice” has been installed, the exhibition continues on the upper floors where a total of 50 works by Ozmo are on display. Through two monitors located halfway along the path, one can see interviews with the artist and videos taken during the execution phases of the murals. Photo panels reproducing the artist’s murals and located inside the Tower adjacent to the Fortress complete the exhibition.
Curator Gian Guido Maria Grassi says, "Pisa since the fateful 1989, when Keith Haring painted Tuttomondo, donating it to the city, has been at the forefront, becoming one of the main European epicenters of urban art and knowing how to combine contemporary languages with its own glorious tradition. The Start Open you eyes association continues to contribute to this history with the murals of Porta a Mare; with this exhibition it provides an important new opportunity to study, popularize and historicize the work of one of the fathers of Italian street art, among the best known Italian artists on the international scene, Ozmo. The artist from Pisa, forerunner of a cultural movement before even an artistic one, shows with more than 50 salvaged canvas and pvc paintings how Street art has now definitely entered even prestigious museum collections and contexts."
Roberto Pasqualetti, in charge of the exhibit, describes the exhibition as “an extraordinary exhibition of street art, transferred and set up in an enclosed space: the fortress of the Citadel of Pisa. It is a ’vertical’ space, whose architectural features, from the walls of great height, lend themselves well to accommodate the murals and graffiti.”
Hours: Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Free admission.
