From January 18 to February 3, 2019, Milan’s Palazzo Litta is hosting the exhibition Nature in Motion, a solo show by Brazilian artist Bia Doria (Pinhalzinho, 1960). During the exhibition, contemporary sculptures will dialogue with the curves and ornaments of the Baroque building. In fact, the exhibition will bring fifteen wood sculptures from sustainably managed Brazilian forests to Milan. The artist, inspired in the movement he observes in nature and in the curves of tree branches, gives a second life to wood that would be destined for waste, giving it a new elegant and impressive form, and through this transformation invites us to reflect on the importance of environmental enhancement and protection. The works on display are part of the Dancers of Nature series.
Bia Doria, a Brazilian sculptor of Italian descent who lives and works in the city of São Paulo, uses wood from trees in sustainably managed forests, logs recovered from fires, deforestation areas, river bottoms and dams in her works. The artist travels her country to visit forests, indigenous communities, and has been to the Amazon rainforest more than once, trying to call attention to environmental protection through her work. Working as an artist for more than fifteen years, she has already participated in major events such as the Art Basel Miami fair, and exhibited in places like the Gary Nader Fine Art Gallery, while in Italy she participated in the Florence Biennale (2015), exhibited her work in the Basílica di San Paolo fuori le mura (2017, Rome), and twice received the Fontane di Roma, Art, Culture and Solidarity International Prize from the La Sponda International Academy.
