Prometeo Gallery in Milan presents Sopra | Sotto, the first solo exhibition of Omar Hassan, which can be visited by the public from July 3 to September 10, 2020.
The show was first presented at PAN - Palazzo delle Arti in Naples: there are 777 kilometers separating the Neapolitan exhibition venue from the Milanese one, and it will take Hassan 96 hours to cross Italy, unstaging his Naples show and setting up the new one in Milan, emphasizing the performative vein that characterizes him as a painter.
The Egyptian-born artist and former boxer does not stand still in front of a confused landscape; with his fighting spirit and pictorial research he concretizes ideas of movement and local action.
By working on distances and proximities, not only as a common practice of space and time, but as a way of seeing, Omar Hassan gives the possibility of lowering oneself into a privileged position, that is, in-between a time that seeps into the interstitial and seemingly inessential spaces within which life infiltrates. When he wears boxing gloves(Breaking Through). When he leaves traces of the time he employs in his productions(Timelines). When he repeats how an everyday gesture points to spray pushing toward the synthesis of street art, rationality and irrationality, with direct reference to his private life(Injection). When he paints on reproductions of the Nike of Samothrace or on the caps of spray cans(Caps). Omar Hassan succeeds in his desire to give form to a time that is difficult to define.
He does so by giving his works action and idea, going beyond the simple description of what is happening to instead give the possibility of understanding the aesthetic scope, nature and quality of the processes of his gesture.
