The rooms of Palazzo Salmatoris in Cherasco (Cuneo) host the exhibition Da Kandinsky a Warhol, l’arte del Novecento nei manifesti, curated by Cinzia Tesio, Rino Tacchella and Riccardo Gattolin, until December 19, 2021.
Starting with the volume Manifestos for Art. Art in the Poster by Dorian Cara, the curators have chosen to display the posters of the most iconic exhibitions of the Short Century, creating a long exhibition path to discover the avant-gardes that spanned the entire twentieth century: from Surrealism to Cubism, from abstractionism to informal art, from Body Art to Pop Art.
The exhibition aims to narrate, through a roundup of important affiches, the path of the different artistic trends that have followed one another from the 1950s to the present. The affiches of the Informal current are represented by Asger Jorn, Karel Appel and Jackson Pollock. The new European art with Michel Tapiè, James Bishop, Hans Hartung and the Italian Emilio Vedova is worth mentioning. The American Pop Art phenomenon is represented mainly by Andy Warhol, but also by Roy Lichtenstein with his outsized enlargements of comic strips, Robert Rauschenberg and James Rosenquist to the Italians Mario Schifano, Tano Festa and Franco Angeli who draw from the icons of Italian classicism contaminating them with advertising inscriptions of famous brands typical of pop culture. The exhibition hosts kinetic and optical art with posters by Bridget Riley, Franco Grignani or Victor Vasarely. Examples of abstract painting are Max Bill’s minimal and rigorous posters, Hsiao Chin’s posters with gestural sign, Franco Veronesi’s monochrome and compact forms, and Piero Dorazio’s abstract sign with multiple chromatic blocks.
On the occasion of the exhibition, a special audio guide was also created on the Instagram profile @manifestiperlarte, to accompany visitors through the exhibition and let them discover curiosities and anecdotes about the artists present.
